Hi. I'm Katie. I'm a poet + an educator. I am probably looking for a snack.
About Me
New to Seattle, I am pursuing my Master of Communication in Communities & Networks at the University of Washington. I previously graduated summa cum laude from the University of Colorado Boulder, where I studied English and minored in Communication. I have experience being a preschool teacher and have volunteered in an elementary school to teach math and reading to children with special needs. Those experiences sparked my passion for teaching. I am also a poet. I believe writing can be one of the most healing practices in life. I am attempting to combine my two passions, education and poetry, and am currently working towards teaching poetry to incarcerated youth to help them heal their trauma. When I am not writing + reading poetry or attending classes, you can find me on the perpetual search for the best pizza in town, cuddling with my dog Eleanor, or trying to set the high score on a Ms. Pac-Man machine.
My Values Statement
By being a committed leader and an active listener, I can bring out my two core values in others — vulnerability and a sense of belonging. I am a problem-solver, an empath, and a mentor who cares deeply for the well-being of those around me. I feel successful when I have created a sense of security and space to heal where everyone's voices are heard.

Proxemics - both a collection of poems and an invitation to reinvent the way we explore and communicate with space. This work reveals the spaces we've created, but also the ways space has created us.
